How the exact age calculator works

What "exact age" means. Your age in years, months and days is a calendar difference: full birthdays passed, then whole months, then leftover days. Because months have 28–31 days and leap years add February 29, the only honest "exact" figure is the calendar one — which is what this page shows.

How to calculate your age manually. Subtract your birth year from the current year, then step back one year if your birthday hasn't happened yet this year. Months and days are the remainder after that — our calculator does it instantly and handles leap-day birthdays for you.

Age in months, weeks and days. Multiply full years by 12 and add the extra months for total months; divide total days by 7 for weeks. These totals are calendar-based estimates (labelled ~ where hour-precision would be misleading), useful for milestones, forms and fun comparisons.

What day was I born? Enter your birth date above and your birth weekday appears in the result cards. The weekday cycle repeats every 5–11 years, so your birthday lands on the same weekday again regularly.

Privacy note: your date of birth stays on your device. We don't need an account to calculate your age, and sharing only ever shares your age — never your DOB unless you choose to.

Frequently Asked Questions

View All →
How is exact age calculated?+

We compare your date of birth with today’s date on the calendar: full years first, then remaining months, then remaining days — accounting for different month lengths and leap years. Totals like hours or minutes are clearly labelled as approximate.

What if I was born on February 29 (leap day)?+

In non-leap years we treat February 28 as your birthday for age increments and countdowns. Your "exact" birthday still returns every leap year.

Is my date of birth uploaded or stored?+

No. All calculations run locally in your browser. We don’t need an account, and your DOB is never included when you share your result — only your age.

Are generation ranges exact?+

No — generation boundaries vary by source (often Pew Research). We show commonly recognised ranges and state they are approximate. We never infer personality, intelligence or beliefs from your generation.

Why do hours / minutes say "approximately"?+

Because they are derived from calendar days without time-of-day or leap-second precision. The years–months–days figure is exact on the calendar; the big totals are estimates.

How do I calculate the age difference between two people?+

Use our Age Difference Calculator: enter two dates of birth and we’ll show the gap in years, months and days — plus who is older.
